FRENCH HR FOR U.S. COMPANIES

Hire employees in France without importing the wrong assumptions.

Decision-ready French HR support for U.S. management teams: employment cost, 40-hour operations, employee relations and local execution.

A MARKET U.S. INVESTORS ALREADY CHOOSE

Talent, infrastructure and European reach.

The U.S. Department of State describes France as welcoming foreign investment and highlights its educated workforce, research institutions, infrastructure, innovative economy and relatively open investment framework.

It also identifies employment costs, labor protections and the social climate as persistent concerns. That makes workforce design a management task, not a footnote to entity setup.

A PRACTICAL 40-HOUR EXAMPLE

Thirty-five hours does not prevent a 40-hour operation.

A full-time employee can work a predictable 40-hour week when the employment framework includes the five additional hours and complies with collective rules, overtime premiums, time recording, daily and weekly rest, and maximum working-time limits.

Using the statutory fallback premium where no different collective rate applies, the five weekly overtime hours are generally within the first eight overtime hours and therefore paid at +25%. A weekly or monthly hours package can make this recurring pattern visible in the contract and payslip; it does not make overtime or time records disappear.

ILLUSTRATION · GROSS PAY ONLY40 hours = 35 base hours + 5 recurring overtime hours

At the French minimum wage in force from 1 June 2026 (€12.31/hour), the monthly gross illustration is approximately €2,200.47: €1,867.02 base pay plus 21.67 overtime hours × €12.31 × 125%. This is not total employer cost and must be recalculated for the employee, date and collective agreement.

Official basis: minimum wage, overtime premiums, and hours packages. These official pages are in French; browser translation may help. Rounding explains cent-level differences.
