FRENCH HR FOR CANADIAN COMPANIES
Hire employees in France with a locally engineered HR model.
French HR support for Canadian employers: total employment cost, working time, benefits, staff representation and dependable local execution.
A EUROPEAN BASE FOR CANADIAN GROWTH
Advanced market, skilled workforce and EU reach.
Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service presents France as an advanced market at the heart of the European Union, supported by the Canada–EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
Commercial access does not make Canadian employment practices portable. The French workforce still needs local cost modelling, written terms, working-time controls, collective benefits and employee-relations processes.

THE TRANSLATION THAT MATTERS
Canadian HR vocabulary needs a French operating map.
| Common Canadian starting point | French operating decision | What monRH@moi secures |
|---|---|---|
| Provincial employment standards and offer documents | French written terms, classification, sector collective agreement and mandatory process | Local inputs, reliable documents and manager guidance; counsel where reserved advice is needed |
| Salary, payroll deductions and employer benefits | French gross pay, employer contributions, collective health and disability/death cover, and payroll parameters | A dated total-cost scenario with assumptions stated and validated |
| 37.5 or 40-hour standard week | 35-hour legal reference plus recurring overtime or another lawful arrangement | Contract structure, payroll settings, time records and limit monitoring |
| Direct employee communications | Individual management plus France’s statutory works council — the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) — where required | A practical information or consultation calendar and clear responsibilities |
| Federal or provincial policy roll-out | French mandatory rules, collective agreement, local procedures and data-protection requirements | A gap analysis and a usable French implementation plan |
A PRACTICAL 40-HOUR MODEL
The French 35-hour reference can coexist with a predictable 40-hour operation.
The additional five hours need the correct contractual, collective and payroll treatment. Overtime premiums, time records, rest periods and maximum working-time limits remain part of the operating model.
Some arrangements create additional rest days; annual-days arrangements may suit eligible autonomous roles. Neither is an informal way to erase overtime, workload controls or employer responsibility.
