FRENCH HR FOR IRISH COMPANIES
Employ staff in France without mistaking EU access for identical HR rules.
French HR support for Irish employers: local employment terms, cost, working time, staff representation and reliable coordination with payroll providers.
IRELAND’S CLOSEST EU NEIGHBOUR
A direct route to continental scale.
Ireland’s official France strategy describes a close and growing bilateral relationship supported by EU membership, direct connectivity and strong economic ties.
That common setting makes expansion easier, but it does not make Irish or UK employment documents portable. A French entity or workforce needs French classifications, payroll inputs, collective rules and employee-relations processes.
THE TRANSLATION THAT MATTERS
One EU market does not mean one employment system.
| Common Irish starting point | French operating decision | What monRH@moi secures |
|---|---|---|
| Irish or group employment template | French written terms, classification, applicable sector collective agreement and mandatory information | Local inputs, documents and an implementation checklist |
| Salary plus PRSI, USC and benefits vocabulary | French gross pay, employer contributions, collective health and disability/death cover, and payroll parameters | A dated employer-cost scenario and provider-validated assumptions |
| 39 or 40-hour operating norm | 35-hour legal reference plus overtime or another lawful arrangement, with records and safeguards | A workable schedule reflected in the contract, payroll and time controls |
| Employee forum or direct engagement | France’s statutory works council — the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) — where thresholds and subject matter require it | A calendar and practical information or consultation process |
| EU freedom of movement | Nationality and role still determine mobility formalities; non-EU nationals require separate analysis | HR coordination with the relevant immigration, tax, payroll or legal specialist |
A PRACTICAL WORKING-WEEK DESIGN
A 39 or 40-hour operation can be organised lawfully.
The French 35-hour rule is a legal reference for full-time work. Predictable additional hours can be built into the right written arrangement and paid or compensated under the applicable framework.
Rest days are not an automatic monthly entitlement. Their source, calculation and monitoring depend on the chosen working-time mechanism and applicable collective rules.
Official basis: working time, overtime and hours and annual-days arrangements. These official pages are in French; browser translation may help.
